Halloween Pokémon

31st October 2019

Both of these designs are by Vincenzo Nova, and I was inspired after seeing another artist, CynicalPlant, making a version of Halloween Ivysaur, and I really wanted to try and make some of my own. I went for a strange hybrid style with these ones, mixing realistic materials with the cartoony outlines and I think it has a pretty cool look.

This was one of the first times playing around with different methods for getting outlines on the characters. Normally I use Blender’s Freestyle engine, or use the inverted hull technique, but for this I used both Freestyle and a method of using the Workbench engine in Blender to generate cavity passes, and then using those cavity passes and manipulating them to create the outlines around intersections (which is something the other methods can’t detect)
